Parents & Families Therapy

A Note on Inclusivity

In clinical terms, we might be working with:

  • Blended and step-families
  • Single-parent households
  • Adoptive and foster families
  • LGBTQIA+ led families
  • Multigenerational households
  • Families with neurodiverse members (ADHD, Autism, learning differences)

Therapy & Parent Coaching | Support for Your Family System

When your family is stuck in a negative cycle, it can feel like:

  • Constant Conflict: Arguing with your child or teen over the same things every day (homework, screen time, chores, curfew) with no resolution.
  • Worried About Your Child: Seeing your child or teen struggle with anxiety, sadness, anger, or isolation and feeling unsure how to help them.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Managing constant fighting, competition, or resentment between siblings that disrupts the entire household.
  • Navigating Big Changes: Helping your child cope with a move, a new school, divorce, or a loss, and managing your own stress in the process.
  • Feeling Like a Bad Parent: Doubting your parenting choices, feeling overwhelmed and burnt out, and wondering if you’re doing the right thing.

Understanding the Jargon (What’s Actually Happening?)

In clinical terms, we might be working with:

  • Family Systems Theory: Understanding how each person’s behavior affects and is affected by the entire family unit.
  • Parent-Child Attachment: Strengthening the foundational bond of safety and trust between parent and child.
  • Authoritative Parenting: Finding the balance between nurturing connection and setting healthy, effective boundaries.
  • Co-Parenting Coordination: Improving communication and alignment between parents (whether together, separated, or divorced) to create consistency for kids.
  • Child & Adolescent Development: Understanding what is behaviorally appropriate and how to support your child’s specific developmental stage.

How We Deal With It in Therapy Together:

My approach is supportive and focused on the entire family’s well-being. Our work will include:

  • Creating a Safe Space for Everyone: I ensure each family member, including children, feels heard and understood in a neutral, supportive environment.
  • Parent Coaching & Support: I provide tailored guidance and strategies to help you defuse power struggles, motivate cooperation, and respond to challenging behaviors with calm and confidence, setting limits that stick.
  • Improving Family Communication: We’ll practice new ways to talk and listen to each other to reduce conflict and increase empathy and understanding.
  • Strengthening Parent-Child Connection: Using activities and interventions designed to rebuild trust, warmth, and security between you and your child.
  • Developing Effective Co-Parenting Plans: Helping parents get on the same page with rules, routines, and consequences to create a united, predictable front for your children.
