Group Therapy for Adults

Feeling lonely in the midst of a major life change is a painful paradox.

You are not alone in feeling alone.

  • Feeling deeply isolated or disconnected, even in a room full of people.
  • Struggling with a major transition (career change, parenthood, loss, divorce) and feeling like no one truly understands.
  • Experiencing anxiety about the future and lying awake at night with racing thoughts about finances, security, or your purpose.
  • Craving meaningful connection but not knowing how to find it or fearing rejection.
  • Tired of surface-level conversations and longing for a community where vulnerability is welcomed.

Understanding the Jargon (What’s Actually Happening?)

In clinical terms, we might be working with:

  • Relational Dynamics & Isolation: Understanding how past patterns contribute to feeling disconnected and how to build secure attachments.
  • Adjustment Disorders: Difficulty coping with a significant life change, even a positive one, which can be intensely isolating.
  • Anxiety & Depression: Often manifesting as burnout, irritability, and exhaustion in adults. This can be a normal response to abnormal levels of stress, like social isolation.
  • Grief & Loss: The multifaceted process of adjusting to life after any major loss, which can profoundly disrupt our sense of connection to others and the world.

How We Deal With It in Therapy Together:

My approach is to facilitate a practical, insightful, and supportive group environment.

  • Fostering Connection & Reducing Isolation: The group itself becomes a living workshop for building social skills, practicing vulnerability in a safe space, and breaking the cycle of loneliness through shared experience.
  • Processing Transition & Change: We’ll work together to navigate ambivalence, reduce anxiety about the future, and help you redefine your identity during times of shift, supported by your peers.
  • Developing Collective Coping Tools: Using modalities like CBT and ACT, we’ll equip the group with strategies to manage anxiety, quiet your inner critic, and tolerate distress.
  • Improving Relationships: We’ll identify unconscious patterns and, through the group dynamic, build real-time skills for communication and authentic connection.
  • Building a Values-Driven Life: Moving beyond just reducing symptoms to help you align your daily life with what truly matters to you, surrounded by a supportive community.

A Little Something to Help Now:

A Small Step to Counter Loneliness: Notice Three People

  • 1: Today, make a conscious effort to simply notice three people. It could be the barista making your coffee, a colleague walking down the hall, or a neighbor getting their mail.
  • 2: Acknowledge their humanity. Silently remind yourself that each person has a full, complex life with their own struggles, joys, and fears, just like you.
  • 3: Make gentle eye contact or offer a small smile. You don’t have to start a conversation. This is simply a practice in recognizing shared presence and breaking the spell of isolation.
